18 years old on or by Election Day.
US citizen.
Resident of Oregon.
How do I register?
In the state of Oregon, you can register online or via mail.
To register online, go to https://sos.oregon.gov/voting/Pages/registration.aspx?lang=en. It is preferred to have a photo identification card (i.e permit, license) that is obtained from the Oregon Driver and Motor Vehicle Services Division.
The deadline to register online is 21 days before Election Day.
To register via mail, fill out this form: https://sos.oregon.gov/elections/Documents/SEL500.pdf and submit it to our local county elections office. You can find your local office at: https://sos.oregon.gov/elections/Pages/countyofficials.aspx
Your form must be postmarked 21 days before Election Day.
You do not have to designate a party affiliation to vote in a general election. In Oregon, major parties may choose if they will use an open or closed system for the primary elections. An open system means that if you are registered with that party, you can still vote on any ballot. A closed system means that if you are registered with that party, you must vote on that party’s ballot in the primary election and cannot vote on any other party’s ballot. To check the primary system used by a party, go to: https://sos.oregon.gov/voting/pages/voteinor.aspx
If you legally change your name, move to a new address, or want to change your party affiliation, you may do so online at: https://secure.sos.state.or.us/orestar/vr/showVoterSearch.do?lang=eng&source=SOS
Can I pre-register?
You can pre-register if you are 16 years old and will be 18 by Election Day.
