Requirements to vote: 

  • 18 years old on or by Election Day.

  • US citizen.

  • Resident of Virginia. A person who has come to Virginia for temporary purposes and intends to return to another state is not considered a resident for voting purposes.

  • Not be registered and plan to vote in another state.

  • Not be convicted of a felony, and if convicted, have had your right to vote restored.

  • Not be currently declared mentally incompetent by a court of law.


How do I register?


Can I pre-register?

  • You can pre-register if you are 17 years old and will be 18 years of age at the next general election.

  • You can also vote in the primaries, even if you’ll still be 17, as long as you’ll be 18 by the general election.
